NCR Summer School 2025

The Netherlands Centre for River studies (NCR) aims at disseminating its expertise through the organization of a summerschool. From the 7th until the 11th of July 2025 the NCR and the University of Twente will organize the second NCR Summerschool. You are welcome to the University of Twente in Enschede for an inspiring week full of river-related topics focusing on the technical aspects as well as the management perspectives.

Dates

The date for 2nd NCR Summer School is 7-11 July 2025.

Venue

The 2nd Summer School will take place at the green campus of the University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands.

What to expect?

The NCR Summerschool will consist of a series of lectures and tutorials in topics such as River Hydraulics, Environmental Fluid Mechanics, Ecohydraulics, Sediment Transport and River Morphodynamics. The lectures will be given by well-known researchers in the field of rivers and each lecture will last 1.5 hours. During the tutorials in the afternoon, you will apply the knowledge gained in the lectures during hands-on-sessions. On the first day, we will organize an informal interactive poster session where all participants can pitch their research. In this session, the participants will have the opportunity to discuss their project with the other summerschool participants and with some of the lecturers. An excursion will be part of the program where we will see the Dutch rivers in the field.

For whom?

The target audience of the NCR Summerschool is PhD students, postdocs, and young professionals who are working on river-related research projects. All lectures and tutorials will be given in English and the summerschool will welcome participants from all over the world.

How to apply?

To attend the summerschool, please send an email to ncrsummerschool2025@utwente.nl with your CV and a short letter of interest (one page max) explaining why you are interested in attending the summerschool and how it connects with your research and/or ongoing projects. The registration fee is 480 euros and includes coffee breaks, lunches, some group dinners, and transportation for the field excursion. The application deadline is extended to March 9th 2025! The maximum number of participants will be 30. In case we receive more than 30 applications, the selection will be done based on the letter of interest and the connection between your research/project and the summerschool topics.
