14 December 2018 - 12:00
Within the Rivers2Morrow program the RiverLab is set up as a numerical experimental facility to work together on software and models for research related to river behavior and dynamics. The ambition is to create a community of users, contributors and river managers (extending beyond the research community) that is stimulated to utilise the RiverLab as a communication and discussion platform. For large spatial scales and long term morphology we started the RiverLab with a 1D modelling approach (with 2D and 3D parts where needed). Therefore the RiverLab utilizes the Delft3D FM Software Suite that integrates these multi-dimensional approaches in one package.
A first application of a 1D morphological model of the river Waal is already succesfully set up in D-Flow FM 1D (the computational core of the software). For more information on the RiverLab also see https://www.riverlab.deltares.nl/ (still under improvement).
The workshop consists of both a hands-on session as well as a discussion part. The latter is on the opportunities/wishes and possible follow ups for the RiverLab.
The agenda of the workshop is as follows:
12:00 – 13:00 Lunch (optional)
13:00 – 13:30 Introduction (idea behind the Riverlab, possibilities, results, platform)
13:30 – 14:45 Hands-on simple morphology case in FM-2D
14:45 – 16:00 Setting up a simple 1D morphological model for FM-1D
16:30 – 17:00 Discussion (opportunities/wishes, follow up)
17:00 – 17:30 Drinks
Friday 14th of December from 12:00 till 17:30.
Deltares, Delft (room Innovation)
People of the whole river community that interested in (long term) river modelling.
Please register before December 10. There is a maximum of 25 seats for this workshop.
