We are organizing a theme afternoon on “Modeling fixed Weirs”.
The idea for this session originated from earlier discussions about modeling groynes and fixed weirs in Delft3D — a topic that deserves more attention. Many modelers and users are not fully aware of how these features are represented in models or what assumptions underlie their behavior.
During this theme day, we aim to share knowledge on the functioning and modeling of fixed weirs, and to explore the implications of different approaches — such as explicit representations of fixed weirs in the model grid versus implicit or parameterized representations that capture their overall effects within the shallow water equations.
The event will bring together both those who implement these processes in model schematizations and those who interpret and use the resulting outputs. In addition to the presentations, there will be a short hands-on session where participants can experiment with a simple (“toy”) model to explore the effects and limitations themselves.
The main objective of the afternoon is to deepen understanding, disseminate knowledge, and create a basis for further experimentation and collaboration within the NCR community.
